Action Day 2004

The VW Drivers Club of Qld held their annual Action Day show on the 12 of September, 2004.  As I have mentioned before (see Action Day info from last year), this is a strange name for a show where nothing happens all day!

When we (our club members and myself) arrived we paid our entry fee and parked in the general carpark.  We then spent the next couple of hours wandering around the displayed cars, swapmeet, trade stands and general carpark looking at the selection of VW's (and VW parts) on display.  As is becomming the norm, many of the items in the swap area where seriously overpriced, and most of those vendors took all their good home with them again...when will they learn?!

As Action Day is held in a large open park area with heaps of grass area, this year we decided to take the dogs with us.  Everyone was surprised to see that we could get the both of them in the back of my '63 Bug without any problems!  I think that they attracted almost as much attention as many of the cars!

This year there was a massive watercooled section of the show, with everything from an early Audi Quattro to the latest R32 Golf.  It was great to see the watercooled guys and girls taking part as there is little doubt that this is where the show scene is heading in the future.

I spent the later part of the morning and early afternoon chatting with other VW event regulars about almost everything to do with VW's, but in particular EFI as a couple of the guys are either in the process of setting up an EFI system or restoring a factory system in their cars.  A good chance to swap information.

Once the trophy presentation was held, we jumped back into our cars and headed home.  Congratulations to all the trophy winners - including Maya in her black NB Turbo which won car of the day.  Action day is one of the few 'professionally' judged...OK, perhaps 'professionally' is not the correct word to use - it would be better to say that it is not a public judged show so the results don't always agree with what the crowd thinks, but all the winners certainly deserved their trophies in this case!
