Dubs by the Pub - the first show of the year for those of us in South-East Queensland (and Northern NSW too!).  A great way to start the year!

As far as the event was concerned, not much changes from year to year.  We all met at the Boondal Entertainment Centre where we were briefed on cruise order, speed and safety.  Then we headed off toward the Ettamogah Pub on the Sunshine Coast.  After an hour long cruise we arrived at the Pub and were parked in catagory order for judging.

As in prevoius years, the show was public judged, and with dozens of catagories this kept those who could be bothered voting very busy for hours (too many catagories in my opinion).  I, and a few other people that I spoke to, found it difficult to pick my favorite from so many catagories - especially considering that I sometimes had trouble finding the cars entered into a particular catagory due to the car park being too small to hold all the entrants.

I also spent some time wandering around the swap and trade stalls on the grass area beside the carpark.  This year I picked up a number of interesting bits that will help me with a couple of my projects.  A set of clear front indicator lenses for my Kombi were purchased from Roy at VW Classic (Pacific), a 6 volt VDO oil pressure gauge (still in the box, with sender - see pic below) was found in the swap and a 215mm type IV flywheel were the main items that came home with me.

After lunch the trophy presentation was held and the owners of the vehicles which were voted the best in class accepted their trophies.  They also had a couple of novilty classes which recieved prizes. 'Dog of the Day' was won by Mel and Graham (again!), and my Ratty recieved an encouragement award (although I am not sure what they are encouraging!).  My prize was an AVW Magazine T-shirt - cool!

With the presentation over, we all headed home.  Many of my club had left before the presentation (and some of them won prizes too - oops!) so I wandered off on my own.  As usual there was a massive traffic jamb on the highway so a stop and chat with other homeward bound VW drivers at the Travel Centre was necessary.

I'm looking forward to this one again next year!  See you there?

Pretty cool Panorama shot!
